Syllabus

The paper pattern of XI Business Mathematics till 2008 was simple, There is no section in the paper. Students are required to attempt any five (5) questions out of eight (8) questions. The syllabus consist of the following topics:

  • INTRODUCTION (Basic operations, Factors & exponents,Algebraic expressions & basic operations)
  • BINARY NUMBER (Introduction, Conversion from binary to decimal number, Conversion from decimal to binary number, Binary addition, Binary subtraction, Binary multiplication, Binary division)
  • MATRICES & DETERMINANTS (Introduction, Equality of matrices, Addition of matrices, Subtraction of matrices, Multiplication of matrices, Transpose of matrices, Determinant, Inverse of matrix, Cramer’s rule)
  • FUNCTIONS & THEIR GRAPHS (Introduction, Slope and distance, Equation of straight line passing through two points, Equation of straight line when slope and one point is given, Equation of straight line having slope and y-intercept, Equation of straight line having x-intercept and y-intercept, Parabola, Roots of equation, Coordinates of vertex)
  • LINEAR & QUADRATIC EQUATION (Introduction, Linear equation, Simultaneous equations, Solving a quadratic equation by method of factorization, Solving a quadratic equation by method of completing the square, Solving a quadratic equation by quadratic formula)
  • RATIO, PROPORTION & PERCENTAGE (Ratio, Combined ratio, Proportion, Direct proportion, Inverse proportion, Compound proportion, Percentage, Profit and loss)
  • INTEREST & ANNUITIES (Simple interest, Compound interest, Effective rate of interest, Annuity, Future value of Annuity/

In 2009, the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi has changed the paper pattern of Business Mathematics. Paper consists of three sections. Section – A for Multiple Choice Questions containing 10 MCQs of 10 marks, Section – B for short answer questions containing 8 questions and students are required to attempt any 5 questions of 5 marks each (total marks 25) and Section – C containing three part questions out which students are required to attempt any two part questions of 7.5 marks each (total 15 marks).
