ADC-II: Cost Accounting

Syllabus

Till 2001, the pattern of B.Com Part – II Accounting consisted of two sections. Students are required to attempt any three (3) questions out of five (5) questions from Section – A “Advanced Accounting” and two (2) questions out of three (3) questions from Section – B  “Cost Accounting”. The syllabus consist of the following topics:

  • SECTION – B: COST ACCOUNTING:
    • COST CONCEPTS AND COST CLASSIFICATION
    • ACCOUNTING FOR MANUFACTURING CONCERN (Statement of Cost of Goods Manufactured and Income Statement)
    • JOB ORDER COSTING (Perpetual System)
    • STANDARD COSTING (Material Price and Quantity Variance, Labour Rate and Time Variance, Overhead Variance)
    • PROCESS COSTING 

From 2002 to 2006, B.Com Part – II Accounting paper was divided into two separate papers. Advanced Accounting of 100 marks and Cost Accounting for 100 marks. Now students had to attempt two different papers. Students had to attempt any five (5) questions in both papers. Following changes were made in and cost accounting topics:

  •  COST ACCOUNTING:
    • MATERIAL – INVENTORY SYSTEM (Perpetual and Periodic System)
    • MATERIAL LOSSES
    • GENERAL LEDGER & FACTORY LEDGER
    • DEPARTMENTALIZATION OF OVERHEADS (Direct Method, Step Down Method, Algebraic Method)
    • OVERHEAD COSTING (Controllable and Volume Variance)
    • LABOUR COSTING
    • BUDGETING

From 2007 to 2013, again paper pattern was changed and both advanced accounting and cost accounting papers were merged into single paper of marks. The topics were same as mentioned in the syllabus till 2001.

In 2014, again pattern was changed and divided into two separate papers of Advanced Accounting and Cost Accounting. Following changes were made in this regard:

  • COST ACCOUNTING:
    • Only perpetual inventory system (FIFO and LIFO method) in included in MATERIAL – INVENTORY SYSTEM.
    • BUDGETING was removed

University of Karachi has converted B.Com into ADC (Associate Degree in Commerce) under the instructions of HEC (Higher Education Commission). From 2022, B.Com is considered as ADC. Course outline, duration, examination system and all other things remain same. Just degree has been converted into certificate. The students who registered as B.Com, can complete their B.Com and will be termed as B.Com instead of ADC, but students who will take admission after 2022 will be considered as the students of ADC.
